Evaluation and Active Management of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury in Pediatric Acute Care: Time to Standardize
نویسنده
چکیده
The acute care setting plays an important role in the proper diagnosis and management of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in children and adolescents. Increasingly, urgent care centers have become the frontline location for most routine injuries in the evolving medical neighborhood. Urgent care centers have progressively become the sites for initial evaluation of mTBI with a need for consistent tools for diagnosis or management. This article describes a pathway for pediatric providers in urgent or emergency care centers using a standardized Screen-InformPrevent process. Standardizing the process of screening, evaluation, discharge guidance, and referral/ communication using the clinical pathway and tools will better serve the needs of children and adolescents presenting to the acute care

Prediction of Clinically Important Traumatic Brain Injury in Pediatric Minor Head Trauma; proposing Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury (PTBI) Prognostic Rule
Background: The present study assesses independent predictors of clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI) in order to design a prognostic rule for identification of high risk children with mild head injury. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective cross-sectional study, 3,199 children with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) brought to emergency ward of three hospitals in Tehran, Iran...

Little scientific attention has been aimed at the non-acute clinical care of pediatric mild TBI. We propose a clinical management model focused on both evaluation and intervention from the time of injury through recovery. Intervention strategies are outlined using a framework encompassing four relevant domains: the individual youth, family, school, and athletics. Clinical management has primary...

Objective: One of the most frequent causes of death and acquired disability in the pediatric population is the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). TBI is secondary to falls, road traffic and vehicle collisions, child abuse and assaults. Penetrating brain injury is a severe form of traumatic brain injury. Blunt head injury is more frequent than TBI in children, but the second one carries a poor progno...

متن کاملPediatric Mild Traumatic Brain Injury in the Acute Setting.
Pediatric mild traumatic brain injuries, most of which are concussions, are an increasingly common reason for presentation to emergency departments. The diagnosis of concussion has increased dramatically over the past decade, necessitating the acute care provider to have up-to-date knowledge of the definition, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, physical examination findings, and acute managem...
